Should the psychopath be caught?

It depends on how you flesh out the psychopath's character. If you create him in a way that appeals to the reader (sort of like that TV series Dexter) then keeping him alive will generate more curiosity and excitement in the story. There's also the character of Hannibal Lecter who's survived across novels.
