Decent engine conversion ideas?

I want something that people dont think will be fast but will be a beast. I was thinking something like a morris minor with a 1600 twincam engine but i heard moggies dont like corners. I wanted something like a mk1 escort but cant afford. Basically just want some good ideas for a good engine conversion project that people wouldnt look twice at. I'm thinking something 106 gti spec as far as speed goes (0-60 7 and half seconds) as i'm only 18. thanks
